Keeping in mind: (1) I currently play RB2 for PS3 mostly on EASY level – starting to move towards MEDIUM, yet (2) I actually play guitar and bass and I can play several of the RB2 and DLC songs on guitar (chords at least, some leads depending on the song) and/or bass (yet I LOVE playing RB2 – go figure, eh? It’s fun to me!), and (3) I have my PS3 on a standard def TV which I’m about 6 feet from when I play, here are my observations on this controller:

While I was looking for a BASS controller to play BASS on, and this controller looked similar to an actual Fender Precision Bass that I own (albeit with a simulated maple fingerboard as opposed to my actual bass’s rosewood fingerboard – I do prefer maple btw) I was concerned about the early reviews about connectivity, etc., but finally went for it and bought this.

When the controller arrived I had NO problems with connectivity (NOTE: I connected the USB dongle directly to the PS3, not to a USB hub or piggybacked onto the guitar dongle, and no other instruments were connected). I then played a few of the shorter RB2 songs in Quickplay mode, using this controller as both a bass and a guitar – no problems with the fret buttons in the lower register or in the upper “solo” register, nor with the strum/pluck bars. Last night I spent more time (about an hour) playing songs in Tour mode mostly on bass, and had no problems with anything – except my dexterity!

Even as someone who does “pluck” an actual bass with the non-fretting hand (though I do generally play bass mostly with a pick – especially if the song is fast), the dual strum/pluck bars take some getting used to if you’re “plucking” (playing with 2 fingers of the non-fretting hand)! If you do pluck though, with the thumb rest it does make it a LOT easier to play a “Bass Groove” with upstrokes only. Note that you can use the strum/pluck bar(s) to “strum”, so don’t let the dual design deter you.

With the other reviews about connectivity issues, controllers arriving D.O.A., etc., I’m playing it safe and keeping my shipping box and materials intact just in case I have to return this controller after a more thorough “play in”. So thus far, I’m leaving my review at 4-stars, though this controller works well for me so far!

I might be one of few, but I’ve always liked playing bass guitar on Rock Band. Having the right giant plastic instrument makes it even more fun! The guitar comes mostly ready to go right outta the box…you just snap on the top. I had no problem getting it to work on my PS3 and was playing bass on my new Fender within minutes of tearing open the box. The way you play the bass guitar took a little getting used to, but now I like “plucking” while playing better than “struming”. (You can still “strum” if you want to, but why would you want to?) It also has the nicest included guitar strap of any plastic guitar out there.

The only downside is the RB Wireless Fender Precision Bass feels lighter and more “plasticy” than I was expecting; it’s not a bad thing, I was just expecting it to be heavier. It actually feels lighter than my RB2 Fender Strat guitar.

The RB Wireless Fender Precision Bass works great with Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and is perfect with Beatles Rock Band. It doesn’t, however, work with any Guitar Hero game I’ve tried.

Get this guitar! It’s fun to play, works flawlessly, and looks impressive when you have friends over to play Rock Band!

First let me say right off that I’m a beginning guitar player. Everything I’ve heard and read said that I absolutely needed to learn by playing in tune. So after doing quite a bit of homework (I’m a bit over the top about researching things I buy), I settled on this unit. Now that I’ve been using it for a couple of months, I can say without hesitation that it was a good purchase. To tune the guitar, you simply pick each string (EADGBE – Eddie Ate Dynamite Good-Bye Eddie) and watch the gauge. Tighten or loosen the stings until the needle lines up perfectly and the green “all’s well” light comes on. Very easy to use and small enough to toss in a pocket. Definitely recommended.

I don’t know how to really tune my guitar properly so I decided to buy this one because it looked good and at a cheap price compared to some of the other ones. Just pluck a string and if it’s in tune the needle will point straight up and the light will be green but if the needle is to the left it’s flat and if the needle goes to the right then it’s sharp and a red light will appear. You can also use this to tune a 7 string guitar, a bass or acoustic guitars which is a plus because I own an electric and an acoustic guitar. It’s also small and easy to carry around with you.The first time I used it on my guitars it took a little while because they were both very much out of tune but it was easy to get them in tune and now when I tune them it’s easy and fast.

I don’t have any experience with other tuners but I do know that this is a good tuner with some good features at a cheap price and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a tuner.

This feels like the real Fender Bass, about 5″ longer than the Rock Band 2 guitar. The split strum bar is fantastic…it took me a few minutes to get used to it and using two fingers works best for me. Real basses don’t have a whammy bar and neither does this, but it does have a knob built-in if you want the whammy effect. It is not wireless but that’s because Microsoft won’t allow 3rd party wireless with the XBox 360. I saw someone playing this Fender Bass on YouTube and he is really, REALLY good! That’s why I bought this and this thing rocks! My friends with the little rinky guitar are jealous because this looks so awesome and now they want one too.

The split strum bar is fantastic and takes playing bass in Rock Band to a whole new level. It allows you to pluck notes and makes you feel like a true bass player. The fret buttons are also very responsive and comfortable to play. I found the overdrive to be very responsive to launch with a quick tilt or lean. This bass blues book is excellent. Why? Because it has a great variety of styles-from Chicago to New Orleans to Texas blues! And the CD makes it even better. It also has more than several variations for most of the examples, great slow blues, and great blues classics. Also included are variations for endings and turnarounds. There are 43 examples on the CD, covering the good ol’ blues up into more rock blues. There is a great version of “Stormy Monday” on this that I just play the heck out of! This is certainly a HIGHSIERRABASSPLAYER must buy! Thanks Ed!

Ed Friedland might not be the most famous bass player around but he is in my book the best bass education book writer. Blues Bass takes you step by step from simple blues lines to more complex songs. The tab is very helpful for somebody who has a hard time to read music and the play along CD really helps. As an adult in my mid 40′s struggling to learn bass the help he conveys through is book has been invaluable. Yes I do have a bass teacher but working on his Ed Friedland’s material with my teacher is really terrific. I have also used his “Bass Grooves” book and Blues Method 1, 2 and 3 books. All of them take you very progressively from simple things to more complex one. Many books push too many things at the same time at their audience. This author has a real talent for breaking things down into bites that are manageable. The song selection of Blues Bass is also fantastic and allows the student to learn songs that are fun to play. I should also say that it is quite extensive and it covers pretty much all the standards. This book should be part of any bass library, it’s a great book for learning and it’s a great reference book, who knows “Born under a bad sign” or “Stormy Monday” might be on your next play list!

Thank you Mr. Friedland for a fantastic book, you have really helped me learn the blues.
